What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

Roger Goodell has good ideas from time to time.
The NFL commish said recently that he would like to see more teams on HBO’s popular “Hard Knocks” series, possibly going to a rotation basis.
“Hard Knocks” follows an NFL team through training camp, with weekly episodes on the drama of making a team or being cut as the team prepares for its season. It’s compelling television, but a lot of teams do not like the series because it is a distraction.
Goodell’s point is that if every team has to do it on some rotating basis, every team would have to deal with that distraction. There would be no advantage.
Of course, there are 32 teams in the NFL. And we might not want to wait 32 years for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Actually, maybe we would.
But might we suggest that “Hard Knocks” goes to four teams a year, a division each year.
The NFC West would be fun to watch this summer, right?

Apparently, Joe Paterno is looking down on Penn State from the clouds.
Penn State football fans noticed a could formation the other day and they claim it looked like the former football coach.
Of course, it was hard for us to tell … because, naturally, he was looking the other way.

The BBC is apologizing because one of its tennis announcers said that Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli was not “a looker.”
“Do you think Bartoli’s dad told her when she was little … You’ll never be a Sharapova, so you have to be scrappy and fight,'” is what presenter John Inverdale said on-air.
Yikes.
Of course, what do we expect from the Brits?
It was just a couple of years ago that Wimbledon officials were accused of only having the best-looking women play on Centre Court. The non-lookers got the non-TV courts.
We in America would never, ever treat women athletes like that.
No, no. Never.
Well, except for just about all the time.
It was a terrible thing to say on air, but worse, it really is not all that surprising.
