Esther Short — The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra plans to provide greater outreach to rural communities with a recently awarded $30,000 grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust. In June, the Portland charitable foundation awarded 63 grants totaling nearly $3 million. The orchestra was the only Washington group to receive a Meyer grant, with the others in Oregon. Meyer Memorial Trust was established in 1982 and is funded through the estate of Fred G. Meyer, founder of the Fred Meyer supermarket chain. Its mission is to help financially support nonprofit groups in Oregon and Clark County.
