Clark County and the Humane Society for Southwest Washington remind pet owners to leave animals at home in hot weather.
Do not leave pets in a parked car or without water, food or shelter, and avoid exercise in the warm weather. Also, keep dogs out of the hot bed of pickup trucks.
Call a veterinarian if your pet has signs of heatstroke. Symptoms include excessive panting and salivation, dizziness and vomiting.
Safely secure animals during the fireworks season. More dogs and cats run away from home during the Fourth of July than any other time in the year out of panic or confusion caused by fireworks. Licensing pets helps ensure that a lost pet can be found.
Call Clark County Animal Protection and Control if you notice a pet that is not properly cared for. The number is 360-397-2488.
