The Vancouver woman who drowned last week on the Oregon Coast was identified Tuesday as Kathryn Agnes Gent, 54.
Gent was swimming with her daughter, 23, at a Lincoln City-area beach on June 28 when both women were pulled out by a rip current, according to Oregon State Police.
The daughter swam to shore, but Gent was found several minutes later face down in the water, police said.
North Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Pacific West Ambulance, U.S. Coast Guard, and state police responded. Gent was pronounced dead at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City.
If you’re caught in a rip current, don’t panic and swim parallel to the beach until you are out of the current, then head for the beach, police advise.
