Community notebook: KWRL U18 baseball claims title

The Centerfield roster includes: Jamison Benitez (La Center), Isaiah Block (La Center), Matt Doiron (La Center), Jake Dressel (La Center), Dustin Ell (La Center), Fulton (La Center), Sam Gillenwater (Ridgefield), Austin Holcomb (Woodland), Trevor Huddleston (Woodland), Colton Lucas (Woodland), Anthony Leino (Ridgefield), Nick Martin (Ridgefield), Jonah Roberts (Ridgefield), Aaron Shoup (Woodland), Josh Soske (La Center), Ian Williams (Ridgefield), and Austin Zimmerman (Ridgefield).

Coaches are Dave Chicks, Joe Castleberry, Tony Ell, Doug Beatty.

The USSSA World Series is scheduled to take place in Alabama later this summer. KWRL Centerfield, a Babe Ruth program, has more area tournaments to play before deciding on any postseason trips.

Showtime places third

The Showtime Baseball College Prep team finished third on Sunday at the Portland Baseball Club Classic, held at Concordia University.

Showtime went 3-1 in the eight-team tournament.

In Sunday’s 8-2 win over the Washington Nationals, Blake Christopher went 3 for 3 with two RBI for Showtime. Reiley Henderson doubled twice.

Showtime’s only defeat was 1-0 in 8 innings to Rock Creek Select on Friday.

The next tournament for this Showtime team will be the Eugene Challenger Invitational, beginning Wednesday.

Basketball camp

The July Madness Basketball Camp is slated for July 22-25 at Shahala Middle School.

The camp is being run for the 16th year by Kelly Blankenship. Other Shahala coaches and alumni will be on had to assist.

The camp is for boys and girls in grades 4-8. It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and to 1:30 p.m. on the final day.

Cost is $65 or $60 each when two or more are from the same household.
