A balanced attack helped the Thunder beat Kelso for the second time this week, grabbing the second-place seed for the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League and clinching a spot in the bi-district playoffs.

On Tuesday, Kelso will play a loser-out game against Hudson’s Bay at Columbia River High School in. That winner will play Mountain View next Thursday, also at Columbia River.

Four players scored in double figures for Mountain View (13-8) in Thursday’s victory. Amica Cranston led the way with 16 points, Emma Duchesne and Carly Holboke scored 12 apiece, and Bailey Gaspar tallied 10 points.

The Thunder outscored Kelso 15-8 in the second quarter to build a 10-point lead and was in control throughout the second half.

Mountain View coach Mat Clark said his team’s movement off the ball on offense was excellent. He estimated that his team had more than 10 assists on its 19 field goals.

The Thunder attacked the basket, scoring 18 2-point field goals and getting to the free-throw line 17 times.

“We aren’t settling (for outside shots),” Clark said. “We are really clicking at the right time. It’s a group effort. That’s the best part.”
