A 43-year-old Vancouver man died in a crash on Interstate 5 in Lynnwood early this morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Vernon C. Strand was driving a 2002 Ford pickup south on the I-5 offramp for Interstate 405 when witnesses say the vehicle drifted off the roadway into the grass shoulder, hit a sign and rolled multiple times down an embankment, Trooper Mark Francis said.
The driver was wearing a seat belt but was partially ejected, Francis said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash was reported at 2:14 a.m., and the offramp was closed for about three hours.
Francis said that there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor, but that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
