Weather Eye: Quake shakes up boring day

Well, what do you know. As I sit here typing my column, the house is shaking, rattling and rolling. Yep, a small earthquake about 3.5 occurred near Amboy, immediately becoming the only highlight to a rather boring weather day.

Gray skies, fog, low clouds and drizzle made for a depressing day of sorts. But there is sunshine on the horizon, so hold fast. Forecast charts show an end to the clouds and rain for a couple of days on Friday and Saturday and highs getting up to 50 degrees or higher depending if we get any morning fog. Then back to more clouds on Sunday and eventually rain. Next week looks wet off and on.

Amazing how much rain fell the past four days or so — almost constant in most locations. Still, as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Vancouver was still close to two inches below average for the month.

Weather observers in the higher elevations of our foothills reported to me that they had more than three inches of rain this week, almost as much as Vancouver has had all month. It will be fun to see those rainfall reports from around the region when they come in. I will share those with you as always in a week or so.

Saturday would be a great time to head up to the mountain with all that fresh snow for a play day. Others probably will venture out in the yards cleaning up and planning for spring, which is just around the corner — well almost. Thinking positive here.

Saturday is Groundhog Day and if we have any similar critters here, they probably will see their shadow at least some time during the day if they wake up and open their eyes! We will see what the famous critter back east dictates.

Any sign of snow or cold coming up? Don’t see anything in the next two weeks, so upward and onward we go. Have a great weekend everyone.
