Girls basketball: La Center 54, White Salmon 34

Katie Whitten’s big game helped the Wildcats lock up third place in the Class 1A Trico League.

Whitten finished with 32 points, eight steals and five assists. She helped La Center (14-4, 12-4) overcome a sluggish start by scoring 13 points in the second quarter, when the Wildcats outscored the visiting Bruins 20-6 and forged a 31-20 lead.

Andrea Griffey scored 11 points and Ashley Denny grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for La Center. The Wildcats’ Samantha Wise left the game with a knee injury of undetermined severity.
