College Notebook: Vancouver’s Gordon, Limage finalists for Rutschman award

Athletes from schools smaller than NCAA Division I are eligible for the Rutschman awards, presented each year to one male and one female.

• Gordon is the GFU career leader in points and steals. She led the Bruins to a four-year record of 117-10 from 2008-12 and an NCAA Division III national basketball title in 2009. The 5-foot-10 wing was named an NCAA Division III First Team All-American by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops.com as a senior in the 2011-12 season.

She was a key player in George Fox’s 32-1 season as the Bruins reached the NCAA-III championship game.

Along the way, she was named the Northwest Conference Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-West Region and West Region Player of the Year by D3hoops.

Gordon finished her four-year career as the all-time George Fox leader in points (1,753) and steals (297). She also ranks second in games played (125), fourth in assists (336), sixth in rebounds (761), and seventh in free throw pct. (.7777). She was Second Team All-NWC as a freshman, and First Team All-Conference each of her final three years.

Gordon graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in organizational communications from George Fox in 2012, and is is serving as a first-year assistant coach for the Bruins, who are 12-3 and ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division III.

• Limage earned her nomination after a spectacular 2011-12 as she claimed two NAIA Individual national titles and four NAIA All-American performances among the Concordia cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Limage won her first individual national title in the indoor 800, then came back and won her second national title in the same distance at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. She won both titles in school-record time, running the indoor 800 in 2 minutes, 11.39 seconds, before running the outdoor 800 in 2:07.10.

Limage also posted NAIA All-America performances as part of the Cavaliers’ indoor distance medley relay (fifth) and individually with a 23rd-place finish at the 2011 NAIA Cross Country National Championships.

She won two individual Cascade Collegiate Conference titles and finished the year with school records in the indoor and outdoor 800 as well as the indoor 600 (1:33.92) and indoor 1,000 (2:56.65).

Limage is now a senior at Concordia.

Southern Utah’s Click out for senior season

Southern Utah gymnast Alyssa Click will miss the rest of her senior season after suffering a knee injury while training Thursday at practice.

The Skyview High School graduate’s competitive gymnastics career may not be over yet, however.”It is looking very likely that she will be granted a medical hardship and be able to use this year as a redshirt year, giving her eligibility to come back next year,” a SUU Media Relations spokesman said. “She has already said that she wants to come back next year.”

McCartney, a graduate of CAM High School in Battle Ground, captured her third all-around title in as many meets this season with a 39.200 in a three-team meet against Arizona State and San Jose State.

Concordia’s Dixson wins national award

Concordia University senior thrower Gabi Dixson was named the NAIA National Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for Jan. 6-12.

Dixson, a homeschool graduate who competed for Battle Ground High School, earned the honor after posting a pair of NAIA indoor automatic qualifying marks in winning the weight throw and finishing second in the shot put at the UW Indoor Preview meet in Seattle.

It is Dixson’s fourth career national athlete of the week honor, her first during indoor season.
