A Vancouver man appeared in court Thursday on charges that he pulled a knife on a woman in a Salmon Creek park last month.

The woman was walking her dog in H.B. Fuller Park about 8:40 a.m. on Dec. 14 when she was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife and pushed her, according to the probable cause affidavit, which lays out the legal grounds for an arrest.

The documents do not indicate if the woman suffered any injuries.

Another woman at the park who witnessed the confrontation spotted the suspect ten days later and followed the man to his residence at 12715 NE Seventh Ave., court records state.

On Jan. 16, Clark County sheriff’s deputies interviewed the man, Fazlollah Vakili, 70, who admitted that he had pulled out a pocket knife, opening it up and telling the woman if she didn’t leave him alone, he was going to cut her throat, according to the document. He told the deputy that he didn’t push the woman, but put out his arm to keep her away, the document states.

Vakili faces a charge of first-degree assault.
