The host Falcons used balanced scoring to pull away from the Hilanders for the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League win.

Four players scored in double figures and a fifth player had eight points for Prairie (10-6, 3-3), which won going away despite not attempting a free throw in the game.

“We had good balance,” Prairie coach Kyle Brooks said. “In the first half we got some baskets inside to kind of get us going.”

Preston Brooks hit two 3-pointers early in the third quarter to spark a Prairie push that extended a nine-point halftime lead.

Mason Pack led the Falcons with 16 points. James Phillips had 12 points and eight rebounds and Brooks finished with 11 points and eight assists. Prairie made 28 field goals including eight three pointers.

Aaron Adams scored 26 points for Kelso (7-9, 1-5).

Kyle Brooks said this is only the second time in his 13 seasons at Prairie that his team has not attempted a free throw in a game. The other time was in the 2001 state semifinal loss to Ferris in Brooks’ first season as the Falcons’ head coach.
