Traffic is back to normal after an early morning car fire on Interstate 5 southbound near NE 179th Street.
Clark County Fire & Rescue crews extinguished the flames from the car, at milepost 10, but traffic remained backed up for about a mile, Battalion chief Tim Dawdy said.
The male driver saw his car start smoking, pulled over and escaped without injury, Dawdy said. He called 911 about 7:50 a.m. One lane of the interstate was blocked for about 40 minutes, slowing traffic.
Washington State Patrol and Washington Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
