Girls basketball: Union 80, Battle Ground 60

The host Titans used a late 11-2 run to pull away in the high-scoring Class 4A Greater St. Helens League opener for both teams.

Tuileisu Anderson scored 30 points to lead Union, despite being limited by some foul trouble. Anderson made 11 field goals in the game, including four 3-pointers in the first half.

A 24-7 second quarter put Union up 43-21 at halftime and Battle Ground was never closer than 11 points in the second half. The Tigers did outscore the Titans 22-11 in the third quarter.

Emily Rowe finished with 19 points and Jessica Chatman scored 17 for Union, and each was effective inside in the fourth quarter when the Titans put up 26 points. Union point guard Tessa Vanderpool had six steals.

Four players scored in double figures for Battle Ground, led by 17 points from Haley Hamilton.

The game featured a combined 64 free throws.
