Prep athlete of the week: Kenji Yamashita

Kenji Yamashita of Mountain View was voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for the week of Dec. 24-29 in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Yamashita collected 61 percent of the 424 votes cast to beat out Camas girls basketball player Nikki Corbett, who had 29 percent.

Yamashita beat Parker Folliard of Oregon City 7-1 in the 138-pound final at the Pacific Coast Championships at Hudson’s Bay. It was the second tournament championship in as many weeks for Yamashita.

The other nominee was Union boys basketball player Tyler Copp. Nominees are posted on The Columbian’s prep sports blog at www.360preps.com by Monday. Voting starts Monday and continues through 8 p.m. Thursday at www.facebook.com/360preps.
