Nominations are being sought for two annual awards that celebrate the leadership of Gen. George C. Marshall.
The awards are part of the Celebrate Freedom programs organized by the Fort Vancouver National Trust.
• Marshall Public Leadership Award nominees must be Clark County residents, 35 or younger, with a four-year college degree. Criteria include leadership ability, commitment to public service, academic achievement and potential for public service.
The award includes a $2,200 travel stipend to visit the Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Va., Colonial Williamsburg and Washington, D.C.; opportunities to work with community leaders; and a scholarship for the Leadership Clark County program.
• Marshall Youth Leadership Award nominees must be in high school (or home-schooled) at the 12th grade level and residents of Clark County. Selection is based on activities and projects.
The award includes a $2,500 college scholarship; a $500 summer internship in the Trust’s Celebrate Freedom office; opportunities to meet with local elected officials and opportunities to participate in Celebrate Freedom events.
From 1936 to 1938, Marshall commanded the 5th Infantry Brigade at Vancouver Barracks. Marshall served as Army chief of staff during World War II. He was Secretary of State from 1947 to 1949, winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
The 2013 recipients will be honored at an awards dinner at Pearson Air Museum on March 13.
