Ridgefield — Forgoing a traditional holiday party, first-graders at Union Ridge Elementary School celebrated the season with a giving spirit. Teacher Sara Mills asked students and volunteering parents to assemble bags of supplies for people in need on the last day of school before winter break. Helpers formed an assembly line and placed toiletries, snacks and cards into plastic bags, which went to homeless people or in-need families. Charitable efforts stretched across the school district this winter. Ridgefield High School’s Leadership Class donated more than 2,700 food items and $900 during its annual Tip the Trailer campaign. National Junior Honor Society members at View Ridge Middle School adopted an in-need family and participated in a Walk and Knock Food Drive.
