Columbia Adventist boys fall in 1B state opener

Sunnyside Christian pulls away in second half

Sunnyside Christian scored the game’s first seven points, and Columbia Adventist was never able to get closer than six points the rest of the way in a 55-28 loss to the Knights Thursday in a Class 1B boys quarterfinal in Spokane.

Sunnyside led 25-11 at halftime, but the Kodiaks closed with 29-21 with 3:17 left in the third quarter.

But the Knights finished the quarter with a 5-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, scoring the game’s final 10 points.

Josh Rodriguez led the Kodiaks with 10 points. Stephen Jardin had seven points, and David Irias added six points and six rebounds for Columbia Adventist, which will face Christian Faith of Federal Way in a fourth-place semifinal at 12:15 p.m. Friday.

Alex Brouwer had a game-high 15 points for Sunnyside. Brian Broersma added 14 points, and Brant Bosma had 10 for the Knights.
