Talking Points: And then there was one

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

Six Clark County basketball teams ranging from Class 1A to Class 4A took to the court Friday and Saturday, and six saw their seasons come to an end.

Class 1B Columbia Adventist out of Battle Ground remained the area’s lone hope for a state basketball title this year, beating Moses Lake Christian, 57-52.

Meanwhile, all the other basketball players in Clark County are officially in the offseason. It’s not what they hoped for, but the teams that played this weekend still can look back on successful seasons. Most every other squad in the state would have been happy to make it that far.

Well, it’s official: The New York Yankees are “Baseball’s Evil Empire.” Back in 2008, a company registered as Evil Enterprises sought to trademark that phrase. The Yankees sued, insisting that they are “Baseball’s Evil Empire.”

Earlier this month, a panel of trademark judges agreed, ruling: “In short, the record shows that there is only one Evil Empire in baseball and it is the New York Yankees.”

Next, the judges are expected to rule that water is wet.
