Prep athlete of the week: Britni Atwell

Britni Atwell, Heritage gymnastics

Britni Atwell of the Hertiage gymnastics team was voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 11-16 in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Atwell collected 41 percent of the 522 votes cast to beat out Kasey Calwell of Camas (boys swimming), who had 32 percent.

Atwell won the Class 4A all-around title at the state meet in Tacoma as well as state titles on the vault and floor exercise. She also placed second on the beam and third on the bars.

The other nominees were Union’s Tyler Copp, Woodland’s McKenna Mulder, and Evergreen’s Anthony Thomas.

Nominees are posted on The Columbian’s prep sports blog at www.360preps.com by Monday. Voting starts Monday and continues through 8 p.m. Thursday at www.facebook.com/360preps.
