A $250,000 federal grant will help replace a pedestrian bridge at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, federal officials announced this week.The award was part of $12.5 million in funding announced by the Federal Transit Administration to pay for improved access in national parks, forests and wildlife refuges. Of the 29 projects that will receive the latest round of money, Ridgefield’s is the only one in Washington.The project will replace a 30-year-old pedestrian bridge that’s considered structurally deficient, according to the FTA. The span crosses the railroad tracks, and connects the refuge headquarters to trails, recreation areas and other public facilities south of the city.
The goal of the project is to provide better access beyond the refuge entrance for people with disabilities and other visitors.
