Portland — More than 400 families in Southwest Washington and Oregon live with ALS, a fatal neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. There’s no cure, but local folks can take some comfort knowing that the Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter of the ALS Association has been named Chapter of the Year. That’s out of 42 chapters nationwide. The chapter provides patient and caregiver support, equipment and more, but executive director Lance Christian said the real aim is “supporting research that will lead to a treatment and cure.” Learn more about the Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter of the ALS Association at www.alsa-or.org.
