Police respond to report of man stabbed in Vancouver

A Vancouver man was treated at a hospital Tuesday for two stab wounds after an altercation with an alleged prowler.

Dave McCracken, 34, heard something outside of his house at 14114 N.E. 28th St. just before 2 p.m., said his wife, Jessica McCracken, also 34.

When he went to investigate, he found a man going through the shed near the back corner of his house, and the two men got into a fight, Jessica McCracken said.

The man used a short knife to stab her husband in the stomach and the side of his leg, she said.

“I was scared when I first got the call,” Jessica McCracken said. After arriving home and finding that the bleeding had stopped, she calmed down.

Vancouver police responded and searched the area for the man, described as a white man in his 30s, skinny with long hair and wearing jeans and a jacket, police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. He was last seen running eastbound on 28th Street, but police did not find him, she said.

Dave McCracken was transported to the emergency room at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and was released later Tuesday afternoon.

Because the residence is directly across from Burton Elementary School, the school was put on lockdown for a short time.
