Camas voters approve school district levies

The Camas School District’s maintenance and operations and technology levies passed by significant margins during the Feb. 12 special election, but not all Clark County school districts were so lucky.

In Camas, Proposition 1 (M&O) passed with 62.32 percent of the vote, while Proposition 2 (technology) earned 64.36 percent approval.

The Camas replacement M&O levy is $48.2 million and continues local funding for current programs and services. The technology levy is $5.27 million and will be used to upgrade equipment and provide tools for all students at every school.

Several other school districts put their own levies in front of voters with mixed results.

The Vancouver School District’s M&O and technology levies both passed, along with the Ridgefield and La Center school district’s M&O levies. But the Battle Ground School District’s M&O levy failed with 53.48 percent casting ‘no’ votes, and the La Center School District’s capital fund levy for sports facilities was also defeated with 50.47 percent casting ‘no’ votes.
