What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
1
This week in NASCAR world, it’s going to be all about Danica Patrick, like it or not.
That just comes with being the first woman to win the pole for the Daytona 500 … and, well … being Danica Patrick.
Yahoo Sports NASCAR blogger Nick Bromberg wrote on Sunday:
“While some fans tire of all-things Danica Patrick, given her motorsports ubiquity, her qualifying effort guarantees to keep her in the spotlight for the next seven days leading up to the most famous race of the NASCAR season. However, as Patrick has garnered a lot of media attention in the recent weeks for her relationship with fellow driver and Rookie of the Year contender Ricky Stenhouse, this time, the attention will be because of her success on the track. And no matter your opinion of her, that’s a good thing.”

Never mind that next year at this time Sochi, Russia, will be hosting the Winter Olympics.
It was announced on Sunday that Beaver Creek and Vail, Colo., will host the next skiing world championships in 2015.
What better stage for an up-and-coming U.S. ski team than a Rocky Mountain slope?
The recently completed world championships in Schladming, Austria, helped solidify the next U.S. stars in Ted Ligety and Mikaela Shiffrin.
Feel free to jump on the bandwagon now.

Funny thing about the “daylight” games the Portland Winterhawks play at the Memorial Coliseum.
That natural light can be hazardous for goalies.
Today’s start time against Spokane has been moved to 4 p.m., an hour later than originally scheduled.
Saturday’s daylight game at 3 p.m. produced a glare on the ice and the goalies could not see the puck coming at them.
