Washougal forced overtime thanks to a big second-half comeback but fell short in overtime of a Class 2A district playoff in Chehalis.

The Panthers fell behind 31-20 at halftime after a turnover-filled second quarter.

But Washougal charged back in the second half, sparked by three 3-pointers by Savannah McDowell.

“The girls just decided they wanted to play one more game, and they laid their hearts out,” Washougal coach Charlie Boyce said.

Washougal had a 55-53 lead with 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter and had possession of the ball. But Centralia rallied to tie the game.

McDowell finished with 18 points, and Alyssa Blankenship and Megan Sharp added 13 each.

The loss ended Washougal season at 11-11.

“It was a great season for us,” Boyce said. “We’re a really young team.”
