Portland Thorns FC schedule announced

Portland Thorns FC will kick off the inaugural National Women’s Soccer League season on April 13 with a road game against FC Kansas City.

The first of 11 home games will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, against Seattle Reign FC. Thorns FC will play their home matches at Jeld-Wen Field.

The NWSL announced its 2013 schedule on Tuesday. Each of the eight teams team will play 22 regular-season games over five months.

The top four teams in the standings will meet in the league semifinals on Aug. 24, with winners playing for the championship on Aug. 31.

Teams will play some opponents more than others. Portland will host Seattle, Chicago, Kansas City and Sky Blue (New Jersey) twice. Thorns FC will twice play at Seattle, Chicago, Kansas City and Boston.

Season tickets for Thorns FC home games can be purchased through the Portland Timbers ticket office. Prices range from $9 to $22 per game. Call 503-553-5555 for details.
