Girls basketball: Hoquiam 51, La Center 48

Hoquiam made three free throws in the final 38 seconds to beat La Center in a 1A district tournament game in Centralia.

Hoquiam made 3 of 6 free throw attempts in the closing minute, while La Center failed to convert its final three possessions into points.

After a low-scoring first half, Andrea Griffey made all three of her 3-pointers in the third quarter as La Center forged a 33-27 lead. Katie Whitten made three of her four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep the Wildcats close.

Griffey finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Whitten had 21 points, five steals and four assists. Katie Hebdon had eight rebounds.

La Center faces Rainier on Tuesday in a loser-out game in either Tumwater or Kelso.
