The host Peprmakers finished strong to beat the Plainsmen in a loser-out 4A Greater St. Helens League district playoff game.

Camas advances to play at Union at 6 p.m. Friday in the district semifinal game. The Papermakers (12-9) have earned a spot in the bi-district playoffs.

A big second quarter made up for a slow start for Camas, and a 20-10 fourth-quarter advantage sealed the win. Brenna Khaw scored 11 of her game-high 17 points during the fourth quarter. Khaw also contributed five assists and five rebounds.

Evergreen scored the first nine points of the game, seven of them from Deja Nicholas. Camas adjusted its defense, and Nicholas was held without a field goal the rest of the game as sisters Paige Jackson and McKenna Jackson took turns defending Evergreen’s top scorer.

“They did a good job denying (Nicholas) the ball and making her earn everything she got,” Camas coach Chuck Knight said.

Camas outscored Evergreen 13-2 in the second quarter and led 18-11 at halftime. The margin was only two points entering the fourth quarter, but the Papermakers pulled away thanks to some transition baskets.

Sierra Brown added 12 points for Camas. The winner of Friday’s game at Union will play at Prairie at 8 p.m. Saturday for the district championship.

Nicholas finished with 12 points and Nakesha Hatchet scored 10 for Evergreen, which finished the season with a record of 11-10.
