Boys basketball: Battle Ground 47, Skyview 45

The host Tigers emerged victorious from a defensive battle in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League loser-out game.

Three players scored in double figures as Battle Ground (12-9) advanced to play at Evergreen (10-10) at 7 p.m. on Friday in the district semifinal game. Battle Ground also secured a spot in the bi-district tournament.

Jamie Ford’s two free throws inside the last minute put the Tigers ahead by five. A Keegan Liebelt 3-pointer pulled the Storm within two, and Skyview had a chance to tie or win with a final possession after Battle Ground missed from the foul line with eight seconds left.

Miles Luke scored 19 points to lead the Tigers’ attack, and Kevin Haynes and Jamie Ford tallied 10 apiece.

Liebelt finished with 12 points and Jordan Berni scored 11 for Skyview, which finished with a record of 10-11.

The winner of Friday’s game between Battle Ground and Evergreen will advance to play at Union on Saturday for the District 4 championship. Friday’s loser will be the No. 3 seed into bi-district play.
