Girls basketball: La Center 46, Forks 43

The host Wildcats used a fourth-quarter surge to advance to the double-elimination phase of the Class 1A District 4 tournament.

La Center outscored Forks 19-11 in the fourth quarter. Andrea Griffey hit a pair of timely 3-pointers to help turn the game for La Center, which built a six-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Forks had a shot at a tying 3-pointer that missed as time expired. The Wildcats (15-6) advance to take on Hoquiam on Friday at Centralia.

Katie Whitten had 25 points, four steals and five assists to lead La Center. She went 4 for 4 from the foul line to close out the game.

Griffey finished with 11 points. Freshman Ashley Denney had 10 points and six rebounds.

Katie Hebdon had four steals and six rebounds.
