Bridge work to close freeway ramps

Work on a new bridge over the Interstate 5/Interstate 205 junction will temporarily close two freeway ramps early next week.

On Monday, construction crews will move equipment to the grassy median at the freeways’ northern convergence in Salmon Creek, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. That won’t affect traffic.

The next day, however, the project will close two ramps from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Workers will close the exit from southbound I-205 to Northeast 134th Street, meaning drivers will have to follow a detour from Northeast 179th Street (Exit 9). The onramp from 134th Street to northbound I-5 and I-205 will also close.

Crews are building a new bridge carrying Northeast 139th Street across the interchange, part of the Salmon Creek Interchange Project.

The $133 million job is now in its final phase, expected to wrap up in 2014.
