Ridgefield — Instead of a typical holiday party before winter break, students at Union Ridge Elementary School assembled bags filled with toiletries and other necessary supplies for those in need. Last year, first-grade teacher Sara Mills thought of the idea to give kids a chance to be charitable in the holiday season. After filling the bags, each student brought home a few to keep in the family vehicle. “When families drive past a homeless person or family, they can stop and hand them one of the special bags,” Mills said in a press release.
