PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Kadeem Jack had 18 points and Junior Etou scored the go-ahead basket with 40 seconds to play to lift Rutgers to a 71-66 win over Temple on Wednesday night.

Etou’s conventional three-point play was the difference in a game that saw 17 lead changes, sending the Scarlet Knights (7-7) to a victory in the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Wally Judge and J.J. Moore contributed 12 points apiece and Myles Mack had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists as Rutgers won its third straight.

Quentin DeCosey scored 25 points, but had just eight points after intermission for Temple (5-6), which has had five of its losses decided by six points or less.

Rutgers survived a red-hot spurt by Temple’s Dalton Pepper, who scored all of his teams points during a 19-10 run that put the Owls ahead 61-59 with 4:44 to play. He finished with 19.
