SHENZHEN, China (AP) — Top-seeded Li Na romped to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ukraine’s Nadiya Kichenok on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Shenzhen Open.
American Vania King also advanced, upsetting second-seeded Sara Errani of Italy 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3, while Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria defeated third-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova 7-6 (2), 6-4 in another second round upset.
In other matches, Annika Beck of Germany beat Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, Jana Cepelova of Slovakia defeated Germany’s Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-4, 6-1 and Monica Niculescu of Romania rallied past Taiwan’s Yung-Jan Chan 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
