LAS VEGAS (AP) — The newest champion of football handicapping may not work as a bookmaker, but he’s no amateur.
LVS SuperContest winner David Frohardt-Lane is a Chicago trader who lectures on predictive modeling in sports statistics and consults on scouting with a Big Four professional sports team.
Frohardt-Lane, 36, beat out more than 1,000 competitors to win the LVS casino-hotel’s football handicapping contest on Sunday. He takes home a $557,850 prize. He says he will donate half to GiveWell, a nonprofit that evaluates other charities.
He has a graduate degree in statistics from the University of Chicago, and studied math as an undergraduate at Carleton College.
The prestigious Las Vegas-based sports betting contest has more than doubled in size in recent years.
