DOVER, Del. (AP) — Ben Mockford and Jalen Cannon scored 17 points each, and both hit critical free throws in the final seconds, to lead St. Francis (NY) to a 60-57 victory over Delaware State on Monday.

Cannon also grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Terriers (9-5) to their fourth consecutive victory and their best start since the 2001-02 season when they began 13-5.

The game was tied at half and remained tight throughout. Brent Jones made a 3-pointer to give the Terriers the lead for good at 55-52 with 3:12 left. Kendall Gray’s basket got the Hornets (2-10) back within one with 24 seconds left, but Mockford and Cannon hit two free throws apiece down the stretch to ensure the victory. The Hornets had a layup as time ran out.

The Hornets, who have lost five straight, were led by Gray’s 14 points and 13 rebounds. Kendal Williams added 13 points and Casey Walker 12.
