COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Ty Johnson and Brenton Williams each scored 18 points to lead a balanced South Carolina attack in a 92-65 victory over Marshall on Monday night.
The Gamecocks (6-6) won their third straight and fourth of the past five after opening the season 2-5. Marshall (5-8) lost for the sixth time in the last seven games.
South Carolina held a five-point halftime lead but used a 14-1 run to take control early in the second half. Duane Notice ignited the run with a 3-pointer and he scored seven points and had two assists to give South Carolina a 61-41 lead with a little over 12 minutes remaining. The lead would not be less than 17 points the rest of the way.
Notice scored 13 points and Demetrius Henry added 12 for the Gamecocks. Shawn Smith led Marshall with a career-high 19 points and Ryan Taylor added 18.
