CHENNAI, India (AP) — Fifth-seeded Vasek Pospisil of Canada beat wild-card entry Kyle Edmund of Britain 6-3, 7-5 Monday to reach the second round of the Chennai Open.
The 23-year-old Pospisil saved all four break points he faced and converted two of the ones he created to wrap up the win in 81 minutes.
None of the four first-round matches Monday went to three sets, as Dudi Sela of Israel won 6-4, 6-2 against Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic beat local wild-card entry Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 7-5, 6-2 and Taiwanese player Lu Yen-Hsun ousted Tim Smyczek of the United States 6-4, 6-2.
