DETROIT (AP) — Juwan Howard Jr. scored 15 points and Evan Bruinsma added 11 more while also grabbing 11 rebounds as University of Detroit Mercy coasted past Bethune-Cookman in a 73-53 win on Monday night.

The Titans (7-8) shot 50 percent from the field, enjoyed a 36-30 rebounding advantage and opened with a 16-3 run in building a lead that would never be challenged. Carlton Brundidge contributed 11 points, and Jarod Williams and Anton Wilson added 10 apiece in the win, which was Detroit’s final non-conference game of the season.

Bethune-Cookman (2-14, 0-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) narrowed the gap early in the second half with an 18-6 run but couldn’t catch up. The Wildcats were held to just 28 percent shooting from the field, hitting 13 of 47 and only 7 of 27 from behind the arc.

Malik Jackson led Bethune-Cookman with 18 points.
