Winterhawks down Tri-City in overtime

Anton Cederholm scored in overtime as the Portland Winterhawks returned from the Western Hockey League holiday break with a 3-2 win Friday against the Tri-City Americans at Kennewick.

Defenseman Garrett Haar beat Tri-Cities netminder Eric Comrie at the 10:29 mark of the third period to make it 2-2.

Oliver Bjorkstrand had the opening goal of the game at 3:21 into the second on a power play to give Portland a 1-0 lead.

Tri-Cities tied it at the 11:57 mark with a power play goal of their own from Connor Rankin, followed by a goal from Lucas Nickles at the 18:33 mark as the Americans took a 2-1 lead into the third.

The two teams complete the home-and-home set at 7 p.m. today at Memorial Coliseum.
