Evergreen High School — Sea Mar Community Health Centers threw a Christmas party Dec. 21 for the children from low-income families it serves. The party was held at Evergreen High School and more than 1,200 gifts were provided for more than 300 children; there was also a holiday dinner, crafts activities, entertainment, photos with Santa, a raffle and a dessert bar. The gifts and party were paid thanks to local business support — plus an annual fundraising golf tournament. Sea Mar is a nonprofit that serves thousands of families — many of them Latino — in eight western Washington counties. Sea Mar parties were simultaneously held in seven of them, ultimately distributing more than 10,000 toys to more than 3,000 children in all. For some, the Sea Mar party is the only Christmas they get, according to deputy director Mary Bartolo. ¡Felíz Navidad y Próspero Año Nuevo!
