A free collection event will allow Clark County residents to get rid of their unwanted block foam and used electronics next month.
The event will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, 3510 S.E. 164th Ave. in Vancouver.
Local nonprofit Empower Up will accept computers and other electronic equipment, some of which will be refurbished and given to students, families and others in need. Working electronic equipment less than five years old is preferred, but nonfunctional equipment will also be accepted.
People may also bring block foam, perhaps left over from holiday gifts, for disposal. But the event will accept only clean, white expanded polystyrene block foam in bags or boxes. It will not take plastic-wrapped, yellow urethane foam, spongy foam, food trays, film, packing peanuts or foam with cardboard, tape or metal attached.
A Portland company will process the accepted foam for reuse.
