College notebook: Arn sets school mark for pentathlon

Charity Arn of Woodland set a new George Fox University record for the pentathlon on Dec. 13 at the first meet of the indoor track and field season.

With 3,407 points, Arn surpassed the 3,387 points scored by All-American Beth Stam last season.

Arn won three events: the 60-meter hurdles in 9.26 seconds, the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 63/4 inches,and the shot put with a mark of 34-93/4.

Arn was second in the high jump and third in the 800-meter run in 2:30.99.  Her 60 hurdles time is second on the all-time George Fox list, and her long jump is fourth.

Clark tournament

The Clark College women’s basketball team will host an eight-team tournament Friday through Sunday at the O’Connell Sports Center.

The Penguins (5-2) open the Clark Crossover Tournament at 7 p.m. Friday against Wenatchee Valley (4-5). First-round games begin at 1 p.m. with Clackamas (9-1) against Edmonds (1-7), followed by Centralia (1-3) against Blue Mountain (7-0) at 3 p.m. and Peninsula (2-5) against Mt. Hood (1-7) at 5 p.m.

Games are at 1, 3, 5, and 7 p.m. on Saturday, with the two later games being semifinals.

On Sunday, the fifth-place game starts at noon, followed at 2 p.m. by the third-place game and 4 p.m. by the championship game.
