A hit-and-run accident on Northeast 99th Street in Hazel Dell Wednesday afternoon ended up with a driver being taken into custody.

The incident occurred after 2:45 p.m. at Northeast 99th Street and Northeast Seventh Avenue. A driver hit at least two vehicles, then fled south onto Interstate 5, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Sheriff’s deputies stopped the driver shortly thereafter along the southbound lanes of the freeway, behind a shopping center south of 99th Street.

A drug recognition expert was called to evaluate the driver, who was described as initially uncooperative with officers. He could face hit-and-run driving charges.

One person was transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center with injuries that were described as not life-threatening, according to Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Neiman. The driver was taken to the hospital as well, which is not unusual if a person is being evaluated for suspected substance use, Neiman said.

Additional details about the crash were not available Wednesday evening. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
