Portland — You are enough. It must be true, because it’s been declared in huge letters on a giant yellow billboard in Portland.
“You are enough” can be found on Northeast Glisan Street, 60 feet east of 27th Avenue, on the south side facing east. It’s the third in a series of monthly messages posted in public in Portland by the Joy Team, a Vancouver nonprofit that’s aimed at spreading inspiration, optimism and good cheer (even when it’s not the Christmas season).
There will be more each month through May (which is National Smile Month). As for the current billboard, Joy Team founder Michele McKeag Larson said: “December holds many celebrations and it also holds many stressors. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of the season, we want to remind people to stop, breathe, and be gentle with themselves.”
Meanwhile, more than 100 peanut butter jars for the Joy Team’s “Peanut Butter & Joy” project have been wrapped with the same sorts of inspiring messages by Youth With Purpose, a group of students at Hazel Dell Elementary School; the jars will be given by the Joy Team to Share’s effort to feed hungry children in Clark County.
