Vancouver police arrested a woman Thursday for allegedly stealing a large amount of mail.
Christina R. Tandberg, 36, was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of trafficking stolen property, six counts of second-degree identity theft, second-degree possession of stolen property and two counts each of forgery and possession of stolen mail.
The investigation started two months ago after a homeowner in the 6100 block of Northwest Cherry Street in the city’s Northwest neighborhood found a large amount of mail in a room Tandberg reportedly used while she was a house guest.
When police recovered the mail on October 12, they said the mail included credit cards, checks and other financial information for an estimated 30 to 40 people.
The case was referred to the U.S. Postal Inspector for further investigation.
To help prevent mail theft, Vancouver police encourage residents to use a locking mailbox and check mail daily. Also, review financial statements monthly and credit reports at least annually. Any unauthorized transactions or activity should be immediately reported to your financial institution and to police. The agency offers identity theft prevention tips on their website.
