Boater class scheduled Saturday in Vancouver
Registration is open for a boater safety class beginning at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 21 at the Clark County Public Works Maintenance and Operations Conference Center, 4700 N.E. 78th St.
Offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Clark County Marine Patrol, the class costs $10 and continues until 4:45 p.m.
The course is designed to meet the needs of both the Washington and Oregon boater card requirements. Topics will include safety skills, navigation rules, equipment requirements and more.
Completion of the course can reduce the cost of boat insurance.

Oregon Bass and Panfish Club to meet Dec. 19
PORTLAND — The Oregon Bass and Panfish Club will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave.
Members will view a collection of club activities in 2013.
Slides reported on Columbia Gorge trails
CORBETT, Ore. — Several slides have been reported on trails in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
Among them are slides on the Multnomah Falls-Wahkeena Falls loop, including a slide past Ecola Falls upstream of Multnomah Falls.
The Forest Services urges against crossing slides and to expect icy conditions on the trails.
Night skiing to open at Mt. Hood Meadows
Mount Hood Meadows ski area will begin night operations on Friday.
Resort officials announced operations will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
The area then will follow its normal chairlift schedule of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. the other five days.
Meadows has a base of 23 inches of snow. An evening (3 to 9 p.m.) chairlift ticket costs $30.
