Tatyana Klepanchuk, an AmeriCorps member, is serving at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, on a 10-month assignment as education and restoration specialist. She assists the staff in recruiting and leading volunteers in the outdoor habitat restoration program and in leading school groups during environmental education program field trips. Beginning in September, she has coordinated five volunteer work events and helped educate more than 220 school students during field trips to the refuge.
Matthew Wentz of Vancouver recently began a 10-month term of service in the National Civilian Community Corps at the AmeriCorps NCCC regional campus in Sacramento, Calif. After completion of his current project, he’ll be assigned to a new location beginning in January. He is the son of Kim DeSeranno and Bill Wentz and a former student at Clark College.
NATIONAL MASTER INTERPRETIVE MANAGER AWARD
Lezlie Murray, with the U.S. Forest Service, is the recipient of the National Association for Interpretation (NAI) Master Interpretive Manager Award for 2013. The award, presented last month in Reno, is given to an NAI member who has demonstrated a mastery of interpretive techniques, site and staff management and an ability to pass the skills to others.
As visitor services director, Murray leads the staff at three locations in the 5.4-million-acre Chugach National Forest in Alaska.
