What? One week into winter sports season and we already had our first round of snowouts?

Yes, that’s true. Friday’s brief snowfall led to the postponement of at least a dozen prep events involving local teams. And we’re just starting to hear about make-up dates.

Is there more snow possible this week. Well, maybe some early Tuesday, which could mess up a busy day of prep events. After that, we return to our normal wet weather.

Highlights this week

TUESDAY: Here’s an interesting matchup in girls basketball. Union, one of the top 4A programs in the area with three college-bound players, travels to Longview to face Mark Morris, one of the top 2A teams in the state.

The Prairie-Union girls basketball game postponed last Friday will be played on Monday, Dec. 16. The make-up date was previously incorrectly reported.

And we’ll see our first swimming action of the season after Friday’s GSHL relays in Kelso was postponed by snow. Columbia River and Hudson’s Bay swim against the Evergreen Public Schools swim program. Skyview and Fort Vancouver head to Longview to swim against Mark Morris and R.A. Long.

WEDNESDAY: The Camas girls basketball team faces the first of two tough road games in Oregon with a game at Southridge of Beaverton. The Papermakers face Jesuit on Friday.

THURSDAY: Schedule is light, but that could change with postponement makeup games.

FRIDAY: A very full schedule, but no girls-boys doubleheaders above Class 1A.

SATURDAY: La Center hosts a wrestling invitational that will include Hockinson, Washougal, Ridgefield and Fort Vancouver. All area boys swim teams are scheduled to head north for the Sprint Penathlon at Mark Morris.
